My 3 year old DC (boy) will hit us out of the blue. Like, we are sitting around, doing books before bed, cuddling, etc. and then he looks at his dad, tries to hit him, tries to spit (but doesn't really know how...) and just becomes another "animal" altogether. We have no idea why....it's not like other times where we were setting a limit or transitioning to a new activity - anyone have a DC who does this? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

weird though, in that he was already getting a TON of attention, and as soon as he does the acting out, he DOES lose the attention, in that his Dad left the picture (sometimes it is me that he acts out on....) [ Reply | More ]

Dad turned away, I moved my kid onto other side of couch, and Dad no longer played or gave him attention....while it worked fine, it's more that I am curious what provokes this initially. Is it just part of being a toddler? man, he's just nutty that way! [ Reply | More ]

I have a 3yo ds too and he does weird boy things all the time. Dh understands him; I don't. But I don't worry too much about it. [ Reply | More ]

You don't find it a tad baffling? the way he Jekyll and Hydes in a split second with no obvious trigger? [ Reply | More ]

Totally baffling. But dh seems to think it is perfectly normal. So I decided not to stress. Clearly ds thinks it is hilarious, and I have an inkling that at preschool amongst other 3 yo boys it IS hilarious. [ Reply | More ]

our 3.5 yo does this all the time! reading, cuddling and then he freaks out and hits me, scratches, kicks. have no idea why. have tried timeouts, walking away and it still happens though less often over the past few months. drives me crazy! [ Reply | More ]
