In middle school, I remember listenng in as a neighbor talked about something her child had done and my mother said nothing about our accomplishements. I felt hurt adn asked her about it later. She said she had learned the hard way about talking about how wonderful we were s kids. I was still a little hurt, but had the affirmation I wanted from her.
