I don't know about to start, but Nana Upstairs Nana Downstairs by Tomie de Paola is a great book about losing a grandparent. [ Reply | More ]

my dc was 2 when papou died and we just made the heaven reference because he didn't really get it, but I found every picture I had of them together and made it into a book and we still have it on our coffee table so he doesn't ever forget him. I'm sorry for your loss. [ Reply | More ]

yeah its a big loss. i'm more worried about all the memorials coming up and the family all in black (strict greek orthodox family) and the crying. UGH and to make it worse, we are livng in their house until our contruction on our house is complete. its a mess... [ Reply | More ]

are you Greek? I am not and I think the memorials are out of hand. I understand ritual and all, but it is so stressful for the family. [ Reply | More ]

yes 100% greek madness. there is a memorial at 8 days, then 40 days, then 6 months, then 12 months..then annually! crazy rituals and church and cemetary.. [ Reply | More ]

my father in law died the morning of the 3 year memorial for his wife. He had a stroke and I kknow part of it was due to his stress related to the memorial. we live in a different city so we have not done all the "required" memorials, but it would be hard for me to do it knowing that in some way they were responsible for his death. my dd was almost 2.5 when my grandma died. i read a bit online about how to explain death to small children. i just told her that grandma had died and let her ask questions. it was actually fine, and very poignant for me. [ Reply | More ]
