Today someone accused me of "trying to hail a livery cab" -- does anyone know what the fine or penalty would be for that offense (not a fine for the livery driver, but for the prospective passenger). Just curious. I told him I was trying to establish whether the car was from the company I had phoned. It was not. Felt like if he had decided I had the wrong answer I could have ended up arrested. BTW he reminded me of Spitzer -- not that he was ES but he reminded me of him in his manner and also appearance (in some ways). [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no, I am nobody like that, just a mom trying to get two very tired middle school kids safely home after a 3 day school trip, could not drive them myself since my kindergarten child needed me back at the school to sit in on something he was doing for the next 90 minutes. The man seemed interested bc of the luggage the kids had, seemed to think we were hailing a black car to the airport? [ Reply | More ]

I don't think it's illegal for you to hail one, but it is illegal for the livery driver to respond to your hail. Was this some random guy or a police officer? [ Reply | More ]

only the ones at the Marriott one block over but they are furious if you take them back into bklyn, since the marriot bklyn bridge hotel is so close to the bridge and they REALLY only want fares going into manhattan. [ Reply | More ]

ITA....I mean a tourist could try to hail one. That guy was full of sh*t. It's illegal for them to pick you up from a hail and they know that. You can stand there and wave your arms like a nut job all you want. [ Reply | More ]

I was talking to him at his window after he dropped off other passengers. TEchnically it IS illegal to hail a livery car, but I wonder what is the penalty. I googled and it said hailing a livery car is illegal but I could not find any reference to fines. This mean guy seemed like he was ready to slap on the handcuffs and haul me off to jail. It is not illegal for you, but it could be illegal for a livery cab to stop. BTDT and went to taxi court with the limo driver. [ Reply | More ]
