i think onestepahead or rightstart sells this 5-point harness that you can put in your diaper bag. it's not the best solution but it's something... [ Reply | More ]

we bought a sit n stroll for taxis and for when we rented a car. It becomes a stroller. [ Reply | More ]

had the sit and stroll and it's not a good carseat and not a good stroller - hard to lift, too. too stressful to get in and out of cabs... [ Reply | More ]

OR: It isn't perfect, but it is the best option out there. I didn't find it stressful. I just did it. [ Reply | More ]

In reality, you hold the baby on your lap, fasten the seat belt over both of you and hold the baby firmly. Also tell the driver to drive slow. Only tourist have sit and strolls or other contrampsions. It's just not practical for every day city living. [ Reply | More ]

In reality, the baby is muich, much safer *not* on your lap and in a seat belt. [ Reply | More ]

This NYer (with no car, but the wherewithall to afford cabs) used a sit-n-stroll. The lap thing is dangerous. [ Reply | More ]

I just hold her on my lap and I don't take cabs that often (maybe 3 trips/month). It's not ideal, but there you are. I take some comfort in the fact that in Manhattan the cabs don't often get above 35 mph, I think. [ Reply | More ]
