I was in our building's playroom with DD (2 yo) and a friend of mine with her daughter (14 mo). A nanny came in with a baby who wasn't yet 12 mos. Whenever my friend and I talked about something, the nanny had to interject with how she did things. It was really annoying! My friend was saying how her DD was not walking yet, and the nanny said "Well my DC is walking now. Here, show them how you walk!" Then my friend said something about how DD was skinny, and the nanny said "You have to make her sleep more. She should have 2 naps instead of 1." It was just irritating. And it has nothing to do with her being a nanny because DD and I have playdates with another boy in the building and his nanny and we get along great. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It's probably just her personality. She's uncomfortable having a playdate with a mom and overcompensates. [ Reply | More ]

if it has nothing to do with her being a nanny, why identify her over and over again as one? [ Reply | More ]

she is a nice lady and we have said hello to her before, but I did want to smack her in the head. I get liking to brag about your kid, but she really was butting into our conversation! i wouldn't have done the same thing if I were in the same situation. [ Reply | More ]

she wasn't just bragging (weird because it's not her kid) she was beign completely sancti, asserting herself as a PROFESSIONAL caregiver when you are just an amateur mother, clearly. this really irks me! [ Reply | More ]

i know, yeah that REALLY annoyed me. she said that her DC had 2 naps (he is 10 mos) and that my friend's child should have 2 naps. I said that I didn't know any child over the age of 12 mos that takes more than 1 nap. It was VERY irritating no matter if she were a nanny OR a mom!!! [ Reply | More ]

i would have taken a piss in her sippy cup. i don't like anyone pretending to be an expert on a process that is an unique as children themselves. i especially don't like anyone asserting themselves as more knowledgeable about this process when this is their job, not their LIFE. [ Reply | More ]

it's her annoying way of announcing that she's a childcare expert. you're a nanny. humble yourself. [ Reply | More ]

I"m not proud of this but one time I was at the park with my 15 mos old. She was small so looked younger but had been walking for about four months and loved walking into the water fountain/spray area at the playground. When the water would hit her she would shriek with delight. This nanny started yelling at me that she was too young and that she was scared. My dd was having the time of her life so when this woman yelled at me again, I walked up to her and said right in her face, "When I want your opinion on my child, I will hire you." I felt terrible later but it was satisfying in the moment. [ Reply | More ]

If you knew me irl you would know that this was so out of character but I was infuriated! Like I said, I felt badly later and of course I ended up in a Music Together class with that same nanny a couple of years later with younger db. I don't think she recognized me though. [ Reply | More ]
