it says clearly on the brick in very large letters "in loving memory of jane smith, 9-11-01" -- they'd have to be blind... [ Reply | More ]

np: During a party, people are distracted, they might not have noticed. Don't assume the worst. [ Reply | More ]

I guess the person missed the gigantic cross in the ground in front of it... you'd have to be really distracted... [ Reply | More ]

Yes, it's a party, not a funeral for her sister. It could have been someone who didn't even know what happened (like the friend of a friend). It was careless, but not necessarily rude. [ Reply | More ]

of course, it's not a funeral, but how would you like someone putting their cigarette out in your father's ashes. wouldn't it just be a party then? [ Reply | More ]

If they opened the sealed urn, that would have taken some thought. A square brick object could have just read as a garden ornament. Even the cross would not be out of place where I live in Carroll Gardens. Virgins on the halfshell are pretty common in yards. [ Reply | More ]

I agree. Perhaps thoughtless, but probably not at all malicious or intentional. [ Reply | More ]

No, it's okay to be upset. I would probably also be upset if I had a connection to the family. I think the point of many replies is that people just didn't realize what the memorial was and in the middle of conversation --plus drinking--they didn't take the time to look carefully. [ Reply | More ]

if you are holding the party in the area of the memorial, then this is to be expected. stop looking for things to be upset about. [ Reply | More ]
