Any one read Random Family? I just finished it (for the second time) and would love an update on the lives of the people in the book. The listed website doesn't link to "more info" and the authors' website gives nothing further. Anyone have any insight or info? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That is an amazing book. Don't know what happened to the people, however. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Loved the book thesecond time as much as the first time (I read it as soon as it came out). It is frustrating that the list a website, but it is jut a random domain name. Perhaps it was released as a privacy issue. I just need to know how Coco is doing and if Serena has followed in her mom and aunts footsteps...and Mercedes...I worry about her....Did she stay in school? [ Reply | More ]

one of the best books i've read. no idea on updates, though. she's been on the leonard lopate show a couple times, check that out (wnyc.org). you might also like "drug dealer for a day" by the guy who did the "why do drug dealers all live with their mamas" chapter in freakonomics. [ Reply | More ]

That chapter was so interesting and reminded me of Random Family. I followed links to Leonard Lopate, but ti didn't seem to be a follow-up, just about her dad and is death if I recall. Perhaps if I listen tot he whole transcript, right? [ Reply | More ]

np- the book is called "Gang Leader for a Day," just finished it, and while it was interesting, it didn't suck me in nearly as much as Random Family. The sociologist who wrote "Gang Leader for a Day" is a central character in the book, and it doesn't read like a story the way Random Family does. [ Reply | More ]

It follows the real lives of young teenagers in the Bronx during the nineties over the course of many years (and pregnancies, and prison and drug use, etc. ) [ Reply | More ]

I am also finishing my second read and keep trying to get updates and can find nothing. I'm most interested in Coco who I feel in different circumstances could have been a fantastic mother. I was born into a working class family and now realize how lucky I was to have that. I would love to help some of these people out. [ Reply | More ]
