Am I lame. 4 yo ds is in school 5 mornings and I do no classes. Some of his friends take 1-2 a week and some (well one) as many as 6. In the summer he will be in camp all day all of July and I will probably sign him up for 1 class for August. He loves going to the playground, playing in the water, day trips, etc. How important are these tumbling, art, cooking classes at this age? he can do all these things and actually went as a guest to friends tumbling class and did all and more than the other kids. PLus, I can't afford all these classes. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no need for more unless you want to have him in more. There are some low cost things out there too if money is the hurdle. [ Reply | More ]

I see no problem with no classes. School is for structure. The rest of the day with mom (or nanny) should be for being a kid and having fun. Get a CP Zoo membership and take advantage of that. [ Reply | More ]

I don't see the issue - you can't afford it, that's the end of the story. So don't do it. Pretty simple. [ Reply | More ]

Overscheduled children are not happy children,. Let him be in nursery school and enjoy unstructured play time outside school. 5 mornings is plenty for a 4 yo. [ Reply | More ]

Not at all. I sometimes feel pressured to enroll my 4 yo in classes beyond her 5 day a week preschool when I hear about dc taking karate, music, spanish, ballet etc. Frankly, she has plenty going on with preschool and day camp and I would rather have the freedom in our schedule to experience music, art, outdoor play on a more spontaneous basis. During the summer, free concerts for kids at the park, playdates where the kids dance to music, doing crafts at home. They have plenty of time to take music lessons or pursue a sport once they are in grade school. [ Reply | More ]
