DH thinks we should get rid of our landline phone and just use our cells. Anyone btdt? I know it makes sense since we pay about $600/year but it just seems strange. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

we have no land line. works fine for us. only rarely do I wish I had a better connection with someone. I was worried when the babysitter came about no phone, but she has a cell, and I just make sure to leave her all our info and that she charge her phone before coming. [ Reply | More

I insist on keeping a land line for the better connection and plus if there is no electricity it will work if you can't charge your cell phone. (Maybe I do have a bit of survivalist paranoia in me also.) Get the basic local plan - no long distance and it will run you about $20 - $25 a month. If you only have a cordless phone just buy the cheapest corded phone just to keep around and then it is available to use when there is no electricity. [ Reply | More

^^^Use your cell phone for long distance calls or use one of those long distance plans where you have to dial a certain number first and it will be charged through your regular bill. Plus if you dial 911 from the land line it is easy for the operator to pinpoint your location and address for a quick response. [ Reply | More
