Ever since DS gave up his nap a month or so ago, his sensory seeking behavior has increased. I wonder if he's tired & so everything is sort of "dulled" for him, so he's seeking more input. Anyone BTDT? It's really difficult some days. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Has an earlier bedtime helped? [ Reply | More ]

Not at all. I'm going to try a slightly later bedtime to see if that helps at all. I figure it can't hurt. Anything is better than 5 a.m. [ Reply | More ]

Blech, you sure got that! What time was his bedtime before when he was napping, and what is it now that he's stopped napping? Also: since he is looking for input, why not try a weighted blanket? That might help. [ Reply | More ]

His bedtime before was about 7:30/8:00, but he often would hang out & babble in there for nearly an hour at times to unwind & fall asleep. Now I'm putting him in at barely 7:00 and he's asleep within 10 minutes. I'm going to try it at 7:30 tonight and see what happens. The input stuff - I notice more jumping, climbing, and throwing toys/crashing stuff. He hates the super deep pressure stuff (weighted vests or blankets). I tried just putting a heavy blanket over the one he usually uses and he threw it right off. [ Reply | More ]

Are you doing the Wilbarger protocol - the brushing and joint compressions? [ Reply | More ]

I had been but haven't done it religiously lately. I think I'll go back to doing it more regularly and see if it helps. [ Reply | More ]

Try it, it might really help. And talk to your OT as well. Did you guys ever try melatonin? Also, last thought: if he's asleep that fast at 7pm and he's waking early, you might do better if you put him to bed EARLIER - seems crazy but there's research behind it. And you have blackout shades installed, right? [ Reply | More ]
