What are some good summer camps for 8 or 9 yo that combine physical/play with some academic enrichment? In NYC. Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

let them have the summer off...you do realize that almost all schools assign work to be completed over the summer, right? [ Reply | More ]

np - Dcs have never had any summer assignments either - not even a reading list in middle school. And dcs have never gone to anything academic during the summer. But they still do fine at school. [ Reply | More ]

i don't think there is a correlation between having summer work and doing fine. i just find it suprising that schools don't do this. ime with my kds' school and with friends, most have at least a summer reading list starting from young grades [ Reply | More ]

You know, I had thought about adding "no flames" to my post because I knew this might be a response. I agree, there must be some free time. But now that DS is getting older, I'd like to have some "work" time as well. So many friends use workbooks. I'd rather he spend some time during camp with academics so that his free time/weekends won't be filled with worksheets. [ Reply | More ]
