I'm irish catholic, the only people who drank at wakes were the alcoholics and the frat boy times. Inappropriate, in my opinion. [ Reply | More ]

Mom's side is Irish. We drank at her family's wakes. Hell, my grandmother's wake and the funeral the next day was one of the best family parties I have ever had/been to. Asking is not offensive. Your crack thing though is. (It would be more like asking, "Do they play music at every funeral in New Orleans?" The answer is no.) [ Reply | More ]

Define wake. Do you mean the viewing at the funeral home? if so, no dinking unless you are an alcoholic, or an ass. Sometimes people have a meal or get together after the funeral, and sometimes people drink then. [ Reply | More ]

You will not find a post that ever said I drank at a wake or funeral home. That said, I have no problem with other people grieving and celebrating the life of someone they loved in whatever way they find comforting. [ Reply | More ]

My Aunt in Dublin dropped dead several years ago. Wakes in Ireland are generally a private family affair, then the body is removed to the church. The funeral after party generally has a LOT of drinking, as does the one year anniversary of the death. [ Reply | More ]
