hmmm. i am wohm and have thought of this 10000 times. i guess i'd just ask- any chance you can ease that direction and see how you like it, i.e. cut your hours back? do you like your job? I guess i think a) you might not enjoy the full time SAHM and b) the career track risk is real, unless you don't care about your career or like it in which case who cares. [ Reply | More ]

depends on field, but aren't there ways to keep one foot in the door, through temp work, volunteer work, taking classes, etc.? I've heard it's easier to get back in if you can show and talk about what you've been doing during your time off, even if it was non-paying work. [ Reply | More ]

This depends on the field. have a friend who left work, been 8 years now, and she has to re-enter, and difficult times right now. She is stuck in a much lower paying entry job (attorney) than had she stayed in there even part time. [ Reply | More ]

Dont do it!!! See if you can work 4 days a week, once they start walking it is a lot of work enjoy being at work! [ Reply | More ]

I am leaving my job (13mo dd) and so excited to do it. I plan on taking at least two yrs off. Finances at home need to be stable though esp in this job market. [ Reply | More ]
