Any thoughts about how to help my 17mo sleep through the night? I think her teeth hurt or something, she cries for a long time and does not settle down, but when I finally go in there to check on her she is seemingly half-asleep, she is lying down and mushing her face into her lovey or little pillow. I would do anything, not against her sleeping with me if it would help any, but when I do bring her into my room she doesn't sleep, obviously she's totally psyched about it and wants to play and talks and sings and rolls around. DH and I are exhausted. Help! (She is #2 btw, our older dd never did this, and we are at a loss.) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Don't bring her in your bed. She does eventually settle down, no? [ Reply | More ]

op: no actually. I let her cry for 10 minutes before going in there, as I know that much longer than that and she will wake our older dd. Last night I threw up my hands and just let her cry (it's not constant, she cries, settles, cries, yells, settles, talks, settles if that makes sense) for a good 40 minutes, it did wake older dd... :( and she did not settle down. Finally I went in there and rocked her and she did fall back to sleep. On me. In the rocking chair, where I really cannot stay for more than 20 minutes at a time without my back starting to bug me, or believe me, I'd be happy to sleep there too. sigh. [ Reply | More ]

op: pretty much. She still goes for a week sleeping through, then it's 4 or 5 nights of this insanity. I tell DH that when the stars are back in alignment she will sleep through again. He doesn't laugh when I say that. [ Reply | More ]

This is why you should have sleep trained her at a younger age. I say let her CIO. [ Reply | More ]

But if you are going in you are not doing CIO. You are not being consistent. [ Reply | More ]

op: I know I know. When she was younger I mean. We did it by the book. It workeaftd. But now, she's older, louder and after the 40 minutes of hell last night I'm not feeling convinced she will cry herself to sleep. [ Reply | More ]
