Here is my top ten list of "lightening rod" issues for G&T parents on this board: 10) Whether the DOE will be able to successful input everyone's selections 9) Whether a 98 will get into any citywide but TAG 8) Whether TAG will be able to fill two classes 7) Whether it is okay to register at one's zoned school while waiting to hear on G&T, 6) Whether it is okay to call OSEPO to find out if they got your letter 5) Whether to give up a private spot for a citywide 4) Whether the sibling policy will "dumb-down" citywides, 3) Donna at Anderson, 2) Certified versus regular mail 1) NEST [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: these are the things that have been causing the biggest controversy (and longest threads) since G&T results came out. If you have been on as much as I have in the past few weeks you would recognize most if not all of them [ Reply | More ]

You forgot the biggest lightning rod of all: sib policy. Also, whether it is OK to rank schools you won't send DC to. [ Reply | More ]

This continues to surprise me. Someone just told me that she ranked a district program that she has no intention of attending. WTF is wrong with these people??? [ Reply | More ]

I did that, too. I ranked all 10 schools. When I get the assignment I will make a decision if DC is going to attend that school or not. [ Reply | More ]

Here are my ten: Donna, Nest vs. Anderson, is everyone who doesn't rank tag or chinatown schools a racist?, what will happen to tag? ok to rank schools you won't take?, olsat vs. sb, lottery within percentiles: is it fair?, should we bring back the onsites?, will 98 get into a citywide? and the number one lightning rod issue....sib policy. One thing I can't remember whether we ever debated (but it may be because it happened before we got out score and I started to live on this site) was the drop of the cutoff for district programs from 95 to 90 and the implication of that (particularly given sib policy) [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.21.08, 06:47 PM Flag

everyone sort of dropped that since all of the d2/d3 kids scored above 97 [ Reply | More ]

My #1 issue - how the DOE can spend $5 million + teacher overtime on a testing system that is, in essence, just a big lottery and cut millions from school budgets at the same time. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.22.08, 07:07 AM Flag

it is not a big lottery. if you look beyond your limited view you have on the testing process you will realize that the OLSAT did a good job qualifying kids. [ Reply | More ]
