oh honey, you are totally normal in this. it's freaky and scary, but i promise you will never look back. ok, you will sometimes look back a little fondly at your pre-kid life, but you've got great things coming. believe me. it'll be good, and i the servitude in fact lasts shorter than you might wish. there's seomething weirdly sweet about it. and then suddenly they're all grown up. so just enjoy your last weeks (eat out and watch movies!) and good luck with the birth! two things about that: 1. you don't really need toiletries, or pretty much anything at the hospital. they'll have it, and if your dh can get you whatever you need. hell, you're 39 weeks pregnant, go easy on yourself. and...being the packing preparation skills are overrated for parenthood. staying calm and enjoying it is underrated. I felt the same way shortly after the birth, then things start to even out, it could be hormones and just the magnitude of the life change, it is real don't let anyone tell you something is wrong with you for feeling it! This sounds ridiculously cheesy but I'm serious: the rewards are endless (after newborn time for me, i wasn't loving the newborn phase), it is amazing. It is the hardest job but nothing compares. Get a good babysitter and help from dh and you'll be fine! If you don't love it, get a full time nanny and don't feel bad about it. We are who we are, do your best! [ Reply | More ]

You could get a nanny that starts earlier when you are home with the baby so you'll both be there at the same time, I would have loved that, I felt very alone and overwhelmed at first, like that freaking out feeling "what have I done!". See if she can start sooner. I had many friends that were very happy to get back to work at 3, 2 and even 1 month after the birth, it made them feel better right away. A good mommy is a happy mommy! How can they come back to us a year later saying we owe them this arbitrary number? Every month it is around $18 and they are saying it should have been around $60. Can they do this a YEAR later? Yes - of course we thought it was low but we live in a small 1-bed walkup and never use the air and are never home to use the electricity either. We thought it was a great deal becuase it was an older building -- I don't really compare notes with other people on their electricity bills! However, I don't think they can come back and bill us for last year -- it is their problem to correctly monitor electricity use. [ Reply | More ]

I would suggest you pay it. I could affect your ability to get electric service at the next apt. Electricity is a regulated industry and my guess is, they will, in fact, be able to bill you like this. [ Reply | More ]

Congrats on your Baby! Are you waiting or have you already given birth? If you haven't yet delivered, then you may want to investigate the practice and benefits of eating at least some of your placenta. Yeah, this post is really for you, so I probably won't respond to any of the shock, disgust and horror replies. If you have any ?? identify yself as op and I will reply. My own experience was phenomenal and the benefits far outreached external appearance. I was at my pre-pregnancy wight w/in 90 hrs of delivery and was absolutely vital. I'm [ Reply | More ]

sure this is a gross-out but truly, I needed to maintain adequate body mass in order to nurse, so I gained back 5 or so. I hadn't eaten meat since aged 17(39 at delivery), so it was a little hard to visualize eating and digesting organ meat(of all things!) but my mid-wife immediately plazed in freeze in a stat bag for me(yes, her eyes did at least roll), I took it home, boiled off the outer membrane and pan fried the remaining, liver-like organ meat w/onions. I had no exhaustion, ppd or any other physical complaint and sweated out every ounce of fluid related to pregnancy-without dehydrating totally. It truly is worth investigating, particularly if you will be nursing. [ Reply | More ]

NP: I had braces when i was in my mid thirties. Never even had any idea anyone had any thoughts on that but hey, who cares, now I'm 42 and my teeth look great. Croooked teeth, at least on me, were very ageing and were getting worse. I had the big metal tracks and a husband who is very secure. But again, now i love to smile, my teeth look great and I'm so happy I did it. Go for it if you can. Your teeth will look great from now on and you know what, a nice smile is something that never gets old to look at. [ Reply | More ]
