Make your parents weekend hotel reservations early - and make sure you're on the VT side. The online hotel places will go by distance without telling you that it's as the crow flies, so they will list places on the NY side of the lake. I had a bad surprise when I was up and we had a nice dinner where I had wine and then got into my car only to find out that the hotel I had chosen was 60 miles driving distance, around the lake. I was okay to drive, but it wasn't ideal. The ferry is apparently easy to use but I wasn't figuring that out at 9pm on a Friday. [ Reply | More

UVM also grows a particular type of apple that is personal to the university's agricultural program. I forget what it's called, but they always have baskets of them outside the parents weekend events. Take them! They also have them in baskets in the University store in the fall, just for people to take.. [ Reply | More

Yes, it's beautiful. Go hang out on Church Street. Obviously the foliage is incomparable. Take the ferry across Lake Champlain to NY and back. [ Reply | More
