16 college Rep visits by the first week of DC’s high school. Is this common in other schools ? Just wasn’t expecting this at DC’s public high school. Can these visits really enable a foot in the door ? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

A foot in the door? No. But if your dc attends, he can list it on his application as a "contact" with the college, on the apps that ask about it. Or he can mention in the essay that asks Why College X? that he attended the info session at his HS and it really resonated with him when the rep said XXX. [ Reply | More

The visits count as demonstrated interest, but some sessions are so heavily attended that you do not get to talk to the rep at all, so not much besides a sales pitch really. Some you may be lucky with just few kids so you can make an impression. Also, sometimes the rep is the person who will read applications from your school, but not always. If so, it is more important to make an impression if you can. [ Reply | More
