We live in Midtown East and are applying for middle school. Not looking TT. Any advantage to the west side schools (Dwight, Columbia Grammar) over Birch and UNIS, both of which we toured already and loved? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Find out whether grade 6 is an entry point. If a school only has 1-2 spots, you're probably wasting your time. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not slamming any person's choice in schools, but I do suggest that if you live in that area you also take a tour of public MS - D2 has some very good ones - so that you know all of your options. [ Reply | More ]

OP - agree completely. Looking at Salk, Clinton, 75 Morton, and Lower Manhattan Community. DS has IEP and good grades so he’s hard to place. That’s why we are thinking private. [ Reply | More ]

Look at School of the Future. They are not a natural fit for the UB archetype, but work with quirky kids really well. It IS a very hippy-dippy school and not for everyone. DS did very well there and stayed for HS [ Reply | More ]

DD was in the inclusion class at Salk one year: the more typical kids like having the extra teacher. Try not to drink the "small class size and individual attention are always better" Kool-Aid. [ Reply | More ]
