I drive everywhere in my car, as I live in the burbs. I drive to and from work and drive the kids around all weekend. I want nothing more than a really nice, roomy SUV. I wonder whether I should splurge. I don’t have that much money. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Look at used ones. Set a realistic budget and stick to it. [ Reply | More ]

If your present car is serviceable, drive it. Start saving toward the suv, maybe a used one. [ Reply | More ]

I can’t even save money. Can’t afford a used contemporary one (it’s still around $25k). I mean I could use my entire bonus for it but I would think that it’s irresponsible. [ Reply | More ]

Then why are you even contemplating buying any car? [ Reply | More ]

I hear what you're saying. I have a perfectly serviceable car with just about enough space, but during those drives/hanging out in parking lots waiting for kids to come out from practices, etc, I have wished for a more luxurious car to do so in. BUT, not in the budget, and not worth sacrificing for, IMO. With eyes closed and podcast playing I just imagine that I'm in a Lexus SUV or whatever :) [ Reply | More ]

Get a 7 year old, well maintained Honda Pilot. You can get financing for a car up to seven years old. [ Reply | More ]

This. My brother bought my parents a 13 year old, immaculately maintained Honda Odessey with all the upgrades. Even though it's an old car, it feels very luxurious since it's so big and clean and has the leather seats, etc. [ Reply | More ]

If you don't have much money, no, you should not be buying luxuries. [ Reply | More ]

I have kids and a small hatchback (Nissan Versa Note) that I appreciate. I love large vehicles but I became used to the car's smaller size and gas savings. [ Reply | More ]

I don't get the appeal of SUVs. You know they are much less safe than sedans, right? I think the height makes people feel safe, but it's an illusion. [ Reply | More ]
