I felt it was so annoying when some parents at DC’s preschool ask if we are going anywhere for holidays etc. I felt this was kind of nosy. If one shares it then fine but I wouldn’t ask such personal questions. It also seemed like a way to brag about their own vacations. Is it just me or anyone else feel same way.I’m self-employed so I don’t plan ahead, but I usually go away for months on a whim, so it’s different from employee-mentality who has to plan ahead and let the company they work for that they will be off this day etc. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The work question is offensive because it's tantamount to asking "how much money do you have and where do you get it." It's also so insufferably dull to talk about work -- one's own or others'. Surely you can think of a more interesting conversational gambit. [ Reply | More

Vacation plans are official permissible small talk subject, no different from the weather. You are over sensitive for personal reasons. Just babble a list of places you might like to go.
