What to bring to someone in the hospital, who just had surgery to remove cancer, other than flowers? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Ask them if you can pick them up a coffee, shake, slurpee, big diet coke. Get one for yourself and you can enjoy your drinks together for about the time a visit like this should last. [ Reply | More ]

I was your friend a few weeks ago. I felt so rotten while I was in hospital I didn’t want to see anyone. When I was released I was most grateful t9 those friends who brought me food or did my laundry. [ Reply | More ]

no sugar or bad food for cancer patients. jeez! as a cancer patient myself, I would say real food - fruit or nuts as snacks are fine. [ Reply | More ]

you often can't bring flowers anyway. I brought some magazines, ask what they might want to drink, walk with them in the halls a little if their doctor said they could. [ Reply | More ]

Cashmere socks, soft cuddle blanket. Sleep mask, nice hand lotion, Chanel Lip moisturizer. No food, after cancer surgery I couldn’t eat for weeks. [ Reply | More ]

+1 to everything, especially the lip balm because your mouth is very dry after surgery/intubation. I would include cotton socks instead of cashmere, though. I hated the socks that the hospital gave me because they were too hot, and cashmere gives me an allergic reaction. [ Reply | More ]

This is the best list. I also appreciated slippers with good tread on bottom. I might add dry shampoo if the person is in for a little while [ Reply | More ]

My friend gave my mom a little llama-shaped planter with a succulent in it. Mom really liked it and she has it on the windowsill at home now. Food gifts will depend on what kind of surgery, how they're feeling and if they're on a special diet. My mom enjoyed getting care packages of mints/gum, wet wipes, and lotion. [ Reply | More ]
