Doing what with that degree? Law school? Grad school? Check to see which one places more students in the relevant programs after graduation [ Reply | More ]

That’s a long way away for a high school senior. Any other suggestion besides grad placement? [ Reply | More ]

All things being equal, with an interest in political science, Yale. But that’s on the margin - surely your DC has a preference [ Reply | More ]

Visit both and see which he likes. There's more to college than a major. Also apply to both and see where he gets in. [ Reply | More ]

Look at things that affect college experience but are often overlook. For example, cafeteria food, temperature of dorms and classrooms, upkeep of grounds, professionalism, of support staff such as security, cafeteria workers, administrative aides, maintenance. Options in local shopping, culture, fast food, etc. [ Reply | More ]

There is no advantage in applying to Stanford early, so I would say Yale. RD Stanford. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Why is there no advantage to applying early to Stanford? My son is a legacy at both Yale and Stanford. Want to play my car right. [ Reply | More ]

4.3% regular admission at Stanford versus 9% early odds seems like a big difference, [ Reply | More ]

Very different locations. If all things are otherwise equal, does he want East coast or West coast? Where does he picture himself living as an adult? Law school or politics? Are both realistic? Are travel costs to come home a concern? [ Reply | More ]

For most students, this would be a waste of an early decision application. It looks like Yale allows a student to apply ED II to schools that notify after January 1 though. [ Reply | More ]

as my dad said 23 years ago, yale is the past, stanford is the future. he was right. personally, palo alto is a much nicer place to be in than new haven. it sounds stupid but having the sun shine a lot makes you happier. not up on it these days but when i was there stanford poli sci dept. better than yale. school has only gotten richer so i would assume faculty has only gotten better. also went from stanford poli sci to being trader on wall street although do well at either will set you up for the future.
