DD starts pre-school next week with a very slow, staggered phase-in. What happens during these? Do you play with your kid? Do you talk to the other parents and let the kids play? I'm sure it will be fine and we'll just see how it goes but just curious. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Our school was intentionally vague about this. I think we mostly stayed but didn’t engage, then if your kid was doing pretty ok some parents left briefly, which was good because the kids were reassured that you were coming back. [ Reply | More ]

Depends on the school. I've been at two different preschools. In one, they wanted you to stay in the classroom with the kid until the kid felt comfortable enough to have you leave. So you were there until you got the ok for the teacher to step out into the waiting area. In another, all parents dropped off quickly and you waited it out in the waiting area until it was time to pick up (maybe an hour later). GL, as a working parent, I found those phase-ins torturous! Thanks with two working parents, it's a pain. I guess I will follow the school's lead. DD has been in daycare until now so I am guessing she will be fine, but it's all new so who knows. [ Reply | More ]
