Do you know any women who had attacks or died from them? Was there a family history of heart disease? I ask because every man on my dad’s side died young-ish from heart attacks, as in dropped dead from them. I am the only woman in at least two generations on my dad’s family branch. You always read that heart disease is a leading cause of death in women. I am so scared I will have the killer kind of heart attack and die young too. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This. And to OP: yes, I've known women who have died. My dear neighbor's SIL dropped dead at 40 while walking her dog in the park. Sometimes it has been freak, other times it has been based on family history. DH and I both have heart issues in our families. DH didn't think about it until he had one, and now he's on meds. So far, I have no blockage. [ Reply | More ]

see your doctor, do what you can to stay healthy, live your life. my dad's father died at 66 from a heart attack after having 3 previous attacks from the time my dad was in his early teens. as a result, my dad was very concerned about dying from a heart attack and thinks like indigestion would cause him great anxiety (not to say it was unfounded given how heart attacks present). My dad died at 56 from cancer. do what you can, but live your life. good luck. [ Reply | More ]

My MIL had a heart attack 10 years ago. She's alive and thriving today. Very active woman who hikes and skis into her 70s. Heart disease is strong in her family. [ Reply | More ]

You need to get yourself to a cardiologist right away and talk to a doctor about this, not UB. My mom's side of the family has your family history; every male dropped dead around 45 (until advances in medicine, my mom would be 86 if she were alive), every female has high cholesterol after menopause, which can cause plague, which can cause heart disease. Women are often afforded some protection against this until menopause, when estrogen levels drop. I don't know how young you are, but go to a cardiologist and get some tests run. There's no need to just be scared; address this and deal with it now. You'll feel so much better. [ Reply | More ]
