I switched in my mid-50s. It's totally doable if you come with experience. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. How did you come by your position? I am already so much older than Most except very senior management and McKinsey strikes me as young [ Reply | More ]

I'm in legal and in a very specific practice. I know a lot of people in my particular practice/industry and kept my eyes peeled. Even at 55, though, I'm sort of in the middle age-wise in my current position. [ Reply | More ]

High level HR myself. Mid 40s. Suggest a couple of things. #1, make yourself look younger on your resume. Take out the jobs you had in the 1980s and 1990s. They're not at all applicable 20 years later. Take out education years. And get in tight with key HR headhunters at the big places: Egon Zehnder, Korn Ferry, Hanold Associates, etc. And talk to them when there are roles. Sounds like you feel stuck in your current place. Just keep your eyes open. High level roles can take a year or two to come to fruition. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks - not including education years screams old as well but I hadn’t considered this. [ Reply | More ]

NP - I disagree. That's pretty much the norm these days. I was laid off from a job at 34 and that was the first thing my career coach suggested. Unless you're a recent college grad with little/no work experience, no need to include it. [ Reply | More ]

NP. This may seem fluffy but in the mindset of looking younger, change your personal email to gmail (not hotmail or worse, aol). [ Reply | More ]
