If your DC attends a private elementary in NYC, are you asked to provide any school supplies at the beginning of the year? Either for your DC or for the class to share? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: wondering if it's odd or not that we were asked to provide $40-50 of supplies for the room despite paying $50k tuition. [ Reply | More ]

Seems wrong to me. We provide personal supplies for DD (her notebooks, etc.) but not the paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer type stuff. When she was in public school we did provide all that. [ Reply | More ]

op: it's not the stuff you mentioned. They asked for specific notebooks, pencils, markers, construction paper. [ Reply | More ]

Interesting. How much is tuition? Why do you think it is not included? [ Reply | More ]

Full tuition is 30K. A good percentage of the students are on some kind of financial aid, so this is a way to keep costs down. [ Reply | More ]

Wondering if this is it. Our school has about 30% on financial aid. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, there is always a list of supplies for each grade, and you can also order this and pay in advance if you don't want to go shopping yourself, it's a PTA thing. [ Reply | More ]

DD is at a K-12. School provided supplies through fourth grade -- we have been buying them since fifth. [ Reply | More ]

No, none at all. I don't understand, if it's private, why can't they just include it in price of tuition? I understand they want to keep that number down, but really adding an extra $50 onto a price tag that is already $50,000 is not going to make anyone think differently of the tuition price.
