At what age/weight do kids no longer need booster seats? My 9 yr old is tall, almost 5 feet and 92lbs. We don’t drive a lot but did this weekend and noticed his booster seat had a weight limit of 100 lbs. So now my kid just wears a regular seatbelt when he outgrows the seat? I googled and it appears that way but it seems awfully strange and unsafe for a 9 year old in just a seatbelt... [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That seems sufficient height and weight. I took ds out when he was 8. He is now 10 and I believe only one small friend is still using one. [ Reply | More ]

This is about how he sits in your car. Does he pass the 5 step test in your car? My ds had to use a booster in dh's car but not mine for awhile. https://csftl.org/the-five-step-test/ [ Reply | More ]

My dd topped out at 4'9" and 95lbs. She's getting her license this week. If I followed all the guidelines she would have still been in a booster seat taking her driving lessons. [ Reply | More ]

I stopped a long time ago and my youngest is about to turn 10. I never drive so that may be why, but I stopped dragging it around with me in rental cars when my youngest turned 8 I think. [ Reply | More ]

The booster seat is there to make sure the seatbelt is hitting him at the proper level, i'e, not touching the neck, and hits across the shoulder. In an accident the belt hitting forcibly around the neck can be deadly. [ Reply | More ]

Adults who are 5 ft can ride without a booster. My 9yo is a bit short so we use the built-in Volvo booster. Older child has always been tall for his age and we quit using the booster when he was 8 and 4'9". [ Reply | More ]

They can, but if you are in an accident, just know that a seatbelt over your neck is going to cause serious spinal injuries. (signed 5' person) [ Reply | More ]

He's taller than me, I don't use a booster seat! (although I am careful about the airbag situation for short people. [ Reply | More ]
