Yes. Because I just started a new job, had to take a day off on a long weekend for a funeral & came her looking for advice. Too much to hope someone’s decent would be on. [ Reply | More ]

Calm down. It doesn’t matter what she says. My job required on obit to use bereavement days. Call HR and find out if you need to document, them let it go. I’m sorry for your loss. [ Reply | More ]

This. By adulthood, typing a sentence shouldn't require an optimal emotional state. There is no excuse for run-on sentences. [ Reply | More ]

I would send boss a quick email today, thanking her for understanding and say, "I have attached a copy of the obituary for your records - would you like me to forward to HR? Thank you again for the accommodation today, I really appreciate it and I'm looking forward to joining your team." [ Reply | More ]

As an established employee, no, I would not. But as a brand new employee, I think it would be a good gesture. I'm sure the boss won't need it, but she'll appreciate that the new employee wanted to provide the information. [ Reply | More ]

If I were a boss, and actually I am!, and someone did this, if find it very weird. A professional adult would not tack on an extra day to a long weekend with a fake excuse of a funeral. It would signal to me that you don’t think highly of yourself, or potentially, that you are worried I don’t trust you. Don’t do this OP [ Reply | More ]

No. Find out policy, only provide documentation if the policy requires it. Continue to do a great job - and for gods sake act like a normal person ! You will look like a weirdo providing documentation nobody wants to see. [ Reply | More ]
