No. In the same way that deluded people don't know they're delusional I posted in the MP life-changing books thread about "Trapped in the Mirror." I usually run the other way from the self-help genre but that book really hit me. A similar--and more classic--book is Alice Miller's "Drama of the Gifted Child." Nope. Stbx was raised by a mother who is a full-blown narcissist.Pretty sure she is the only one that doesn't know it and she is a therapist. I'm not sure whether it was totally subconscious, unwillingly or even necessary for her own self-protection as a child but otherwise amaing and incredible stbxw picked up many of the traits. I sometimes think she has moments of clarity but they are then overcome by her narcissistic personality traits she refuses refuses to entertain acknowledging. It is so sad bc I know it isn't her fault. But it is what it and we just have to learn to live with it. [ Reply | More

I have begged her to get help. Offered to do with her side by side since she thinks I'm the one that needs help, but she refuses entertain the thought that there could possibly be anything wrong with her. Just everyone else. It is devastating. [ Reply | More

There were screaming red flags the entire time but it wasn't until I was discarded and stumbled across narcissistic abuse recovery that it all made sense. All the way back to Day 1. I just never wanted to believe someone I was so in love with could act like that forever. [ Reply | More

I completely agree plus there is also a spectrum, but if you learn about what true narcissistic personality traits are, it isn't hard to determine whether someone falls on that spectrum after knowing or being with them for years. [ Reply | More
