my spouse and i have a debate. is it safe to allow your 22 month-old to get out of their stroller and sit in your lap while on the subway? the follow-up question then is if it is decided to leave your 22 month-old in the stroller, what do you do if they have a temper tantrum because you won't let them out of the stroller. what's more important? consideration for your fellow riders or sometimes bending to your 22 month-old's temper tantrum to get out of the stroller and sit in your lap? It is perfectly safe to have your 22mo on your lap in the subway. Giving into a temper tantrum is an entirely different question. If it was something unsafe, then of course you shouldn't give into the temper tantrum. Generally, of course, you shouldn't give into a temper tantrum anyway, but sometimes you need to adjust for a situation. An alternative, of course, is to get off the train at the next stop and wait till the tantrum is over. [ Reply | More ]

actually according to the mta rules, you're supposed to fold up the stroller on the subway anyway. [ Reply | More ]

np: I was going to post that, but I think it's a crazy rule. It's much less safe to try to juggle your squirming child and the stroller while you try to get on and off the train. [ Reply | More ]

Nope. Not safer at all. Baby's body next to yours is safest on stairs, through doors, and in train car. Best plan is to skip the stroller and switch to a good sturdy backpack. My Kilty got much more use than my MacLaren during the first two years of life and I take several train rides every day, bus rides, in and out of elevators, up stairs. Skip the stroller. It's just dead weight and encourages you to shlep around unnecessary junk. [ Reply | More ]

eh. we took the stroller all the time on the subway, especially from about 1 to 2.5. Before that it was often the Bjorn, and after, he walked, if we weren't going to far after the train. I never felt comfortable with the backpack, since I didn't know what the people behind me were doing, especially on the train. [ Reply | More ]

yes, it is safe to have dc sit on our lap in subway. You are considerate of your fellow riders for the most part. [ Reply | More ]

OMG. Helicopter parent alert!!!! Let the kid out already. You're probably "horrified" by people who take taxis with kids w/o car seats too right? Move to the burb, stat! [ Reply | More ]
