DH and I are barely making it every month. We own but have little savings. DH wants me to SAH until DC is in school which is another year. I worked part time up til this year but I think DH found it too hard for him. He has a pretty demanding job but doesn't want to put in a lot of extra time either because of that. Would you stick it out one more year. Cutting it so close every month I find really stressful. We're not house poor but I just would like not too worry about being able to buy the extras. Anyone else out there going through this. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would try to keep doing part-time. That seems like a reasonable compromise? How was it hard for dh? We're you working nights and weekends? It is hard to take care of dc after a hard day at work or all day on the weekend, but that's parenthood. [ Reply | More ]

Yes nights and weekends. Not crazy about it myself either but would be nice to have a little extra every month. [ Reply | More ]

If you are working nights and weekends, will you have time to spend with DH? Balance the additional stresses of you being out of the house for whatever amount of time it is and the benefit of the extra breathing room against the additional stress of staying home full time (time, money, etc) and the benefit of being able to focus totally on taking care of home and family (and ability for DH to focus more completely on his job etc.) I hope you find the right choice for you! i don't know if you are still checking this post. but i'd do it on two conditions: if my job were the type where i can get back into the workforce relatively easily. and secondly, if i were willing to cut back on the nonessentials. [ Reply | More ]

People put too much emphasis on the "extras". As long as you're paying the bills, you're fine. [ Reply | More ]

I would stick it out annother year, but that's just me. I feel like everyone I know is stressing about $$, but being with dcs when they are young is priceless imo so unless it is a crisis situation, what's one more year? [ Reply | More ]
