i have a very happy active 9mo dd. i worry she spends too much time with adults--i.e. mom & dad. we're in the country all summer and don't know anyone with kids. the playground is almost always empty. is it bad for dd to not be exposed to other babies at this age, or doesn't it matter? It is fine - no worry. She has her whole life to be with others. Right now she needs to be with you. [ Reply | More ]

9 mo olds generally engage play along side other children rather than interact with them. There is a specific phrase that describes the developmental phases that escapes me at the moment. The short of it is that she will be fine with just the adults for the summer. Interacting with other kids gains importance when she gets older. No worries! [ Reply | More ]

I think at this age, it doesn't matter. Yuor baby would make it clear to you when she would need other kids in her life. My DD started doing it at 27-30 month or so. She would just RUN after kids in the park, and want to be with them and have nothing to do with us. Then I knew - it was time for preschool (we started a bit on the early side, before 3, just because she so needed to be with other kids) [ Reply | More ]
