Need to know going rate for a nanny in NYC working 50 hours a week with a newborn - and any other perks you might provide (i.e. metrocard, cellphone, lunch?)? TIA And does money make a difference if she doesnt have papers? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Yes we both buy groceries as needed. We asked her what kinds of food she liked to eat and haven't had to set a limit as she's not abusive of it. We pay time and a half overtime. The one sticky point we had was letting her take *additional* paid time off in excess of all her paid time off during the day that she wanted compensated as time and a half at night. For example, she'd want to trade a seven hour block of time during the day for 3.5 in the evening. That would have really consumed a good chunk of my remaining vacation time. I too would like to trade in my 40 hour day job for a 20 hour night job for same money. I can't. We both got over it. I interviewed many and spoke to lots more candidates. None were legal despite our advertisement for one. [ Reply | More
