Moms of kids in academically rigorous programs: My DS attends a private religious school that did not have a very "academic" reputation when we started in preschool. Since that time, they have really cranked it up several notches. The homework is heavy, class work is intense and the admissions standards are getting much stricter which has had an effect on the nature of the class as kids have dropped out and moved in. I wasn't banking on this, but at the same time kind of glad to be there. I know, it's not black and white. Anyway, I'd love advice on how to support DS as he moves into 5th grade. The day will be longer and the academic rigor is going to be even greater. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Lots of sleep and a good breakfast are crucial for a child to perform well. Also, make sure your child gets enough exercise (either in school or after, if necessary). [ Reply | More ]
