Are you local? Do they have any other children? Don't just ask what you can do, just actually start doing things-- feed them, watch the other child(ren), clean their house, put out-of-town visitors up in YOUR house, mow their lawn etc etc. It almost outs too much of a burden on them to figure out what you could do to help.
