dh family is renting a house with a pool. we are going for a week in august. no fencing around pool. they have dogs and don't want to put gates around doors and deck. I have 2 kids, 2 and 5. older dc can swim. will clearly watch kids, but should I get an alarm for pool? I feel a little neurotic doing so, but I worry, esp about younger dc. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I grew up around pools. I would absolutely get a pool alarm. I am slightly paranoid about pools and I have been a lifeguard too. Who cares if people think you are neurotic. [ Reply | More ]

I JUST got a gate up today at the house we bought. Also have pool alarm. Poolguard--apparently the best. Recommend 123 swim vest from One Step Ahead. Put that on 2 yo and she was in the deep end paddling away that same day. [ Reply | More ]

For one week? I wouldn't get an alarm for such a short time. Just watch the children more carefully. [ Reply | More ]

np The doors and deck will be open for dogs. Asking for tragedy with 2 yo. Personally, I think ils should suck it up and put up gates and let dogs out as needed. [ Reply | More ]

This is the thing about pools accessible to small children. If something goes wrong, it will be a tragedy. There is no second chance. Also, I have found when vacationing with a lot of family members, everyone assumes that someone else is watching/with the children. This is not going to be a relaxing vacation for you. And really, who cares about the dogs. Strange priorities. [ Reply | More ]

i had the same issue, visiting mom over the summer. i bought something called the safety turtle--an alarm band the kids wear around their wrists. worked great. [ Reply | More ]
