You have to laugh when a mom states she had to have a c-section b/c her hip are too small, etc. Do you know how many babies are born to tiny women?! It is so obvious they are upset about not experiencing birht and try to throw a "I am thin" spin on it. Flame away [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You can be thin or fat and have small pelvis. Where did you get your md degree? I think the school owes you a refund. [ Reply | More ]

Being thin has nothing to do with having small hips. I am a very skinny minny & had no problem delivering, but know women who are bigger, but who had to have c/s b/c the baby wouldn't fit. You can't really tell by looking at women if their hips are big enough. [ Reply | More ]

exactly - I posted above, I have birthing hips! There is not fat on em (size four) but I pop out big babies with ease. My aunt on the other hand (size 12) has incredibly small pelvis. Ended up with a section [ Reply | More ]

So I guess when you look back in history and see how babies doied in the birth canal and mothers who die in birth it didn't have anything to do with this situaltion. Many babies died in the birth canal because of the situation stated above. [ Reply | More ]

historically, a lot of those women were malnourished and/or had malformed pelvises. yes, some women hadve plevises that won't open, but there is in general no way to ID them before labor -- and how wide your hips lookisn't much of a predictor. [ Reply | More ]

if the dr can barely get a speculum inside you that's a pretty good indication, actually. [ Reply | More ]

sorry, but being small doesn't have anything to do with it. My pelvis is very close-set and does not open for childbirth. I am not a tiny woman, but my mother and grandmother were the same - and after laboring for 36 hours, pushing for 8 and having the baby go nowhere, it was decided I NEEDED a c/s. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ i am 5'7, 135lbs and wear a size 6, so yes, I'm thin but I'm not tiny. it has to do with your body type/pelvis and not your thinness [ Reply | More ]

I am one of these women. But I am 5'9" and 150, hardly skinny! I have always had to wear men's jeans because I have narrow hips. I did have a 10 lb db too. [ Reply | More ]

sadly true. I knew before having db #1 that I'd probably have to have a c/s (had my gyno tell me how narrow my pelvis was at my first gyn appt, age 18), but I did try (posted about about my long labor - and my mom and grandmother had the same thing) [ Reply | More ]

it is not the hips it is the cervix that is the issue. My dw is over six feet tall and her hips are not "too small" but she pushed for hours and just could not get dc through cervix. Her OB said after c/s that she ought not try vaginal birth again. [ Reply | More ]
