Thinking about moving dd from her gifted school (she is going into first) - trying to decide between getting her skipped a grade in public or sending he back to her old montessori school where she will be in classes with kids her age & 2 years older (so she will have access to their level of learning as well). The Montessori is in gorgeous location, and she has friends there. BTW - she is about 2 yrs ahead of her level (which is why we would need to have her skipped) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think you should probably seed advice and counsel from the principal of new school, and a social worker or guidance. The academic sounds like a no brainer, the social is probably the sticky part. Its hard and conventional wisdom swings back and forth. At this moment, it is against grade skipping - so you will have an uphill battle. [ Reply | More ]

That is up to you really. I am personally not a fan of Montessori - and does it go thru 12th grade? [ Reply | More ]

Well... first, anyone can slap "montessori" in the name of the school - so they vary wildly. Second, the original and "true" motessori served a population not remotely related to our dc - I think any time you devise a system and implement it where there is none - you see improvement regardless. Same with skin care products. If you have no routine, and you start using company x's routine of course you will see positive results. But you will see them with y and z's prodcut too. But, I degress. I find the philosophy conterintuitive. I can't imagine a world where there is only one way to play with a toy. I don't care for the teacher/child relationship. But all of this is just me. I know plenty of people who adore their "montesssori" school. [ Reply | More ]
