3.5yo is starting "school" for first time in September. He's introverted and shy around new things, and while we've had a few playdates there, he's already been saying he "doesn't like school". Looking for some age appropriate books that talk about starting school. Any suggestions? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Oops, hit enter too soon. Another: http://www.amazon.com/I-Love-School-Philemon-Sturges/dp/0060092866/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216991856&sr=1-1 Also, my DS is similar. I think not talking about it too much but when you do, speaking with confidence helps. I have also found that keeping the good-bye/transition short and peppy is good. It doesn't seem to help them if you hang around for a long time visibly worrying over them. Short & sweet with confidence that he'll have a great day and you'll be back soon "because Mommy always comes back" helps. [ Reply | More ]

If you really want such a book go to the library and ask the librarian - there are tons. But actually, I think you should just drop the subject. 4-6 weeks is such a long time in this child's life, he can not conceptualize it, and it may just cause stress/anexiety. [ Reply | More ]
