i really am not trying to get flamed...but wonder if you get comments on how great your child is (at school, camp, socially, etc.) and you don't necessarily see it - from a social perspective or testing (ERB, etc.) or is this normal? feel badly for not thinking hte same... [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

We aren't in NY so the super scrutiny & ERB stuff doesn't apply. But I will say that my oldest is very tough to parent at home. But all reports from the outside world are that he's fantastic. He is a model student at school. Extra classes he's taken he's extremely focused and diligent. Never sassy. I know that he acts up at home because he feels safe with us and is testing limits. But it's frustrating sometimes. [ Reply | More ]

thanks for the response and not flaming...that all makes perfect sense. and agree that dd probably does it in her safe environment at home but it can be confusing as a parent...especially in this crazy environment (NYC). i am proud of her and her personality but she is a tough kid...especially as i notice my 2nd has a easier personality to deal with. Yeah, we're not dealing w/ the nutty NYC thing (though where we are can be slightly intense--lots of money & educated, smart, successful people around). My second is all around a lot easier than my first and I think the world is also an easier place for her--she's more verbal, outgoing, less sensitive, less quirky. I love them both so much, but I do hold my breathe sometimes hoping DS holds it together out there. [ Reply | More ]

I can totally related to this post. My child who gets "rave reviews from the public" is very high maitnenance, stubborn, and whiny at home. Others see him as easy, go with the flow, and compliant. I belive it is true that kids save their most challenging behavior for those they know who love them b/c they feel safer with parents. Also FWIW I was SHOCKED by my kid's high ERB/SB/OLSAT scores (but still do not think he is a genius, just think he really tries to please others) [ Reply | More ]

my child is the other way - in all walks of life except school dc is great and gets raves. At school, he is a nightmare and teachers hate. [ Reply | More ]
