My 1 y.o. is in the 50th weight percentile but looks small, and today one of my best friends (who is not married and does not have children) called my baby "anorexic." I nearly fell over I was so surprised that someone - much less my good friend - could have said something like that about a baby - much less my baby. Of course, she wasn't serious, and this is just her tongue-in-cheek way of talking, but it upset me nonetheless. Am I being oversensitive? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think so. People just say things sometimes without thinking when it comes to kids, especially people who don't have children. As dd gets older comments like that can be annoying, because she shouldn't have to look in the mirror and wonder what your ditzy friend was thinking when she said something. But for now, I would blow it off. [ Reply | More ]

I think the hard part for me is that I was anorexic for a few years and my friend knows how badly I struggled with it and how it nearly ruined my life. So "anorexic" is not a word I ever use lightly to describe someone. But I guess I shouldn't expect her to fully understand how much that word scares me. [ Reply | More ]
