98ERB (99 verbal and 98 performance). If we apply to 8-10 schools, how many should be TT (it's a girl and we don't care SS/coed)? How many from 2nd tier? From the rest? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

we only applied to 2 tts on our list even though 99 erbs. dalton and trinity because we didn't want ss, and didn't want dc to commute to riverdale. [ Reply | More ]

4 wks. Thanks. But I don't think 98 will get a "special" look. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. Of course, we are happy and proud of dd, but we'll see how this helps/not help with admission/. [ Reply | More ]

It will definitely help (btdt -- 3dcs) but of course it won't guarantee you a spot. We had a classmate in preschool last year with high scores like that (maybe not quite so high) who got shut out. Lovely kid, seemingly normal parents. Sometimes it's just a crapshoot. [ Reply | More ]

What is OP's chances (if non sib) at Dalton with that score? 50/50? [ Reply | More ]

Depends on how many non-sib spots they have. Dalton likes to take sibs. They won't always take them, but will if they believe the sib can handle the work. [ Reply | More ]

Dalton has the worst rep for taking sibs (only about 50% of them) [ Reply | More ]

They send a letter saying that they try to accept siblings, and will so long as they believe the sib can do the work. [ Reply | More ]

They can say -- as some schools do -- that they don't have a policy of giving extra attention to siblings. That's what Horace Mann says -- no sib preference whatsoever. [ Reply | More ]

no way to know, but DS non-sib got in with a 99 ERB (not x 3, I don't remember the breakdown) [ Reply | More ]

6%? You mean for non sibs? K class is 90 kids. Then, you are saying Dalton got over 1400 applications last year? [ Reply | More ]

90 / 6% = 1500 [ Reply | More ]

Nobody can answer this, but here's what I'd say overall - if you apply to 3-4 TT's with those scores, you probably have a 50/50 chance at ending up at a TT, but the odds are much lower if you're trying to get into one particular school. There are a lot of 99's and 98's out there who did not get into TT (and probably plenty more who didn't want TT). [ Reply | More ]

Apply to all the girls' schools you've got 3 TT there. I would also, apply to Dalton & trinity & maybe a few nice K-8 & maybe one "3rd-tier" [ Reply | More ]

We were told 8 schools to be safe with a 99x3 a two years ago, so I'd definitely do 10 now. We applied to 6 tts and 2 2nd tiers. No 3rd tiers. [ Reply | More ]

np: we applied to 6 with the same score (99x3) this past year and got 2 TTs and 1 2nd tier; WL at Trinity and ECFS, and pulled app from a 3rd tier we weren't crazy about. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. In retrospect, not sure we ever had a chance at schools we ranked below "Top 3." PSD probably spilled the beans to schools low on our list. One admit was low on our list but never returned PSD's call - so didn't know. If knew, prob wouldn't have made offer. [ Reply | More ]

DF with son who scored 96 applied to only 5 coed schools and was SO. Five is too few even with a 99 unless you are okay with your zoned school. [ Reply | More ]
