i am hiring waitstaff for a party this weekend. i orinally wanted 5 people. this includes 2 bartenders and 3 people to pass and serve food. well i cancelled one of the bartenders. i decided to hire another bartender who i felt could best make the type of drinks being served (martinis). anyway my contact for the first group sent me an email stating the revised price plus a $25 flat fee if they had to provide any assistance to the other bartender, i.e. stock glasses and get ice. wtf????? i am paying them to work the entire EVENT, not portions of it. not sure how to handle. clearly they're not happy with you dropping the 1 bartender. How do the increased costs they're hitting you for match up with your $$ savings with the new bartender? [ Reply | More ]

it actually evens out if i had used their bartender but it really isnt about the money and i stated that. i told him it was the principle and i felt like he was nickle and diming me. [ Reply | More ]

I don't understand - everyone will go to her for glasses and ice? How will your bartender get this if he needs it? Surely he will use what the caterers bring? [ Reply | More ]

You are a fool to micro manage these people. If you hire people to staff and event you cannot just fly in and decide someone else makes a better martini. Don't be silly, pay up and shut up. [ Reply | More ]

np: i'm not totally sure if i agree. i've seen too many people who hired caterers for important events (weddings, etc) and just assumed the caterer was going to do a nice job and they don't always. i think a good hostess does micromanage to a certain extent. that said, i don't understand the op's post very well. is the extra bartender bringing his own equipment? is the equipment being supplied by a third party, other than the waitstaff? Sorry but OPs judgement on martini-making ability seems marginal at best [ Reply | More ]

can't comment on that. i have never had a martini in my life and i have no idea if some people make them significantly better than other bartenders. [ Reply | More ]

Well that is OPs rationale for firing the 3rd bartender [ Reply | More ]

Did OP have a martini contest to judge everyone's performance? [ Reply | More ]

I have to wonder how she's going to manage the flow of guests to the martini bartender vs. the regular guy. [ Reply | More ]

I can't comment on any of this but one thing is for sure: you have way too much money on your hands. [ Reply | More ]
