Some advice please. My DS has a very gentle nature. He is stuck in school and now summer camp with another male child who constantly yells at my DS and occasionally hits and pinches him. I have encouraged my DS to stick up for himself, and complained many times to the school, but the other kid's behavior continues. WWYD? TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

How old are the kids? My oldest is 6 and there was a boy in his kinder class who was kind of a problem--youngest kid in the class but also the biggest. DS complained a lot about him--being rough, saying mean things. I talked to him about it before bed, role-played scenarios, gave him some ideas of how to respond and talked about what he could do. I know from a few other parents that DS wasn't the only one w/ an issue w/ this kid (and on a side note--the mom is the most helicoptery parent I have ever seen--freakin' unbelievable). But I also think that this stuff is going to happen and kids ultimately have to manage these relationships w/o a lot of help. I do what I can at home to prepare him but then he needs to work it out. It wasn't extreme bullying--if that were the case, then I might intervene. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know. Can you say anything to the child or his parents? [ Reply | More ]
