I am thinking about switching our health insurance to dh's plan. we currently have aetna but the deductibles are so freakin' high on the plan my company subscribes us to. Is anyone familiar with United healthcare/Oxford? Are they fair and cover things, is it easy to find doctors, or would you stay with Aetna? TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Aetna has better doctors but UHC has better customer care. [ Reply | More ]

we've liked both UH and Oxford. I think you'll be fine with either. [ Reply | More ]

MD here: They are all similar, depends more on whether or not your particular MDs are on the plan, whether your particular medications are on the plan's formulary, and then the actual minutiae of what your individual plan carries. As a general managed care company, all 3 are equivalent, IMHO. [ Reply | More ]

We used to have Aetna and have just switched to United Healthcare. We haven't had to change any of our doctors and don't really notice a difference in the number of doctors who take the two. For us, the UHC plan is better, but that would depend on the specific plan options you have with each company. [ Reply | More ]

The deductibles and copay is all part of the negotiations of the employer with the health insurance. My deductibles with Aetna are totally different than the somebody else's using the same insurer. [ Reply | More ]

op: thanks everyone. I have had aetna with the last 3 companies I have worked for, and each company has subscribed to a different level, or plan, within aetna. the company I am with now subscribes to one with an impossible family deductible to reach in a given year and it's expensive. DH's UHC-Oxford plan looks better in terms of ded and cost, but I wanted to make sure we would be looking at the same level of doctors and customer service. Thank you for your feedback-I am more comfortable now switching when re-enrollment comes up in a few months. [ Reply | More ]
