Does anyone know about the Alexander Robertson School? We pass it all the time. It seems cute and small. The price is reasonable. What's the catch.. that it's k-5? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

First, it's very very small. Which should actually attract a lot of private school types, you would think. But second, it's pretty diverse, which conversely drives away a lot of private school types. And third, great art but it's not known for its academics. [ Reply | More ]

It's a pretty average school in terms of both academics and facility. If you live in a terrible public school zone, it's a good option. Also, if your child needs small classes, a small environment, then it's a good option. But if you are zoned for a good public school and your child has no issues with size/noise, then I don't see the point. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe the fact that it is church-connected makes it closer to a parochial school than an independent school? [ Reply | More ]

It's a school that, quietly, caters to a lot of families with kids who have "issues" ranging from behavioral to learning disabilities with a range of intellectual capacities, too. A lot of what you might usually call "immature" kids that need supplemental services to more challenging problems that absolutely need the smaller environment and low adult-to-student ratio. They're discreet about it, as opposed to the Churchill or Winston schools. There's no social prestige there, too, so it's not on the usual radar. [ Reply | More ]
