I think our house was hit by lightning last night. we live in west orange, and at about 10:30 (I was sleeping, DH was up), I was jolted awake-the house actually shook from the force of it! Feel lucky it didn't cause a fire but am a little freaked out. anyone ever experience this? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

our building in greenpoint was struck by lightning a few summers ago. if your house was struck, you're lucky your computer still works. in our building, there was a design studio a few floors above us, and their computers were all fried, despite being plugged into surge-protectors. [ Reply | More ]

op: that's why I'm wondering if we were really struck. Something happened, either really close or on the house, because the house definitely moved, but the electricity didn't even flicker. [ Reply | More ]

Wow. I would want to check this out. Not sure how I would go about it though. Maybe call your local Fire Dept and ask them? [ Reply | More ]

Take a walk around your house. Usually things (well, trees in my experience) struck by lightening have a very pungent acrid smell. [ Reply | More ]
