Anyone else putting their K dc on a school bus for the first time this September? A little nervous about it. Do teachers meet the bus at the school to walk the kids in? What happens if you are late to meet the bus at drop-off? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would never be late. Its one thing if the kid is with the teacher at school. ruude to be late, but if the kid is on a bus, would never be in that position. why would you? [ Reply | More ]

If you are late, the bus will finish it's route and then come back to your stop. If you are still not there, the bus driver will radio the bus company. If it's a private bus company, the company will call you. If it's a doe bus, they will take your child back to the office of the bus depot. [ Reply | More ]

So the bus drivers check to make sure a parent or caregiver is at the pick-up point? This is what I was most concerned about. Also, if someone meets the bus at school. [ Reply | More ]

That is a question for your school. At our school there is a guard who meets the bus and checks off each bus as they arrive, but every school does this differently. Also, at our school, the buses drop off at the back entrance to the school and it is literally two feet from the door. At other schools there may be quite a walk from the drop off point to the actual school door. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, no. It would only be if your child says something like "my mommy isn't here." They don't check at all on most buses. you could get lucky and get a great driver, but you can't count on this. [ Reply | More ]

They take your kid back to the school if you are not there to pick them up. [ Reply | More ]

our school has after school, can just do it ad hoc, so if you are late to pick up, your dc can just go there. you get charged for it of course, but it is a better system to me than worrying about drop off from the bus and not being there [ Reply | More ]

So does the bus turn around and take them back to school? Also, are there monitors on the bus, or just the driver? [ Reply | More ]

no monitors. just your little 5 yo, and some greasy, obese bus driver. I would not be late, personally. [ Reply | More ]

Of course, I hope to never be late. I can't believe that there is nobody on UB that sends their dcs on a bus. [ Reply | More ]

On day one, make friends with every other parent at your stop and get their cell phone numbers. Then, if you are running late, call them and ask them to take your child home with them. [ Reply | More ]

No, you are misunderstanding the OR. She is saying that if you think you will be late, contact the school and have them keep your child there in the drop in program. If your child gets on the bus and you are not at the stop, the driver will finish his route and then go back to your stop. If you are still not there, well then you better be in a car accident, but that is pretty inexcusable. But in that unlikely event, the bus goes back to the depot and they call the police. We have a pretty tight bus stop group. We know which kids are supposed to be there in the morning (and call if someone might miss it) and if a dc gets off the bus & there's no adult there, someone stays with the dc at the stop and calls on the cell phone if we have the adult's number. ^^^And if a dc is sick, we call a bus stop family to let them know that dc isn't going to school that day. [ Reply | More ]
